After a huge Thanksgiving meal we usually wake up the next day feeling bloated and overweight.  Some of us go out and exercise right away, while others put it off.  Eating the big dinner with your family and friends can be quite taxing on the body and systems because we are not meant to eat that much in one setting.  Did you know that you can consume from three thousand to five thousand calories from that one meal alone?  Let’s think about this for a minute.  You typically eat h’orderves when you arrive and socialize for a bit, these are mostly filled with high calorie ingredients that pack a powerful taste in your mouth.  During this time you could have a drink or soda, which is even more calories.  Next, you move onto the main dishes that are passed around the table.  Each side dish can contain hundreds of calories, way beyond what you would ever realize.  We must mention the gravy, topping your plate off with this is like putting gas on the fire as far as your waist line goes.  It is filled with saturated fat and white flour, the two enemies of weight loss.  Ok, so is that the end of it?  No, we still have deserts and pies to eat.  Empty sugar and white flour galore.  Basically the calories just snowball on top of each other and you end up with way too many of them in your body.  Too much food can mean major weight gain.

walkThe best approach after this is to get up the next day and continue with your weight loss program, just get right back on it.  It is going to take some time to normalize from this day, so give it a few days.  It is now Sunday, so you should be just about back to feeling good again.  Be sure to exercise, and if you have not been, most of us shop like crazy on the days after Thanksgiving and that is great for losing weight.  Make an effort to put a little extra time in this week with activities, get moving a bit more than normal and increase your water intake.  Be sure to eat a few small meals each day that have a good balance of nutrients.  We have more holidays coming up, so go ahead and get some balance back in during the next week or two because you might be repeating what just happened.
