There really are not any positive side effects of eating food beyond a few days, it is not longer fresh.  Being safe is best and not taking the chance of getting any strange stomach bugs is worth it.  It is best to go ahead and not eat it and take it as a sign to pick up less at the store next time and make more frequent stops.  It is good for your quads and calves and arms to get your body around the store and carry those bags, a few times a week is no biggie.
